Bands

The Clay-Chalkville High School band is comprised of students in grades 9-12.  The marching band, which rehearses after school during the fall, includes all wind and percussion players as well as the Colorguard and Cougarettes.  The marching band performs at football games, pep rallies, marching contests and the Jefferson County Band Jamboree.  The marching band has won numerous best-in-class awards and has also earned countless all-superior ratings  at marching contests around Alabama.

A proud tradition at Clay-Chalkville High School is that concert bands meet and rehearse year-round.  Performances include a fall concert, winter festival performance, Pre-MPA and MPA performance, and spring concert.

The Concert Band, which meets 1st and 2nd periods during the school day, consists mainly of 9th graders.  This band focuses on the fundamentals of musicianship and helps prepare them for participation in the Symphonic Band.

The Symphonic Band, which meets 3rd and 4th periods, consists of the top instrumentalists in the Clay-Chalkville band program.  Membership is by audition only.  This band performs band literature of the highest calibre and has consistently received all-superior ratings at ABA sponsored music festivals.

The jazz band meets and rehearses after school hours.  Membership is by audition and space is limited based on available instrumentation.
